Free Yukon Property, comes with music
If you're in the Yukon you will not regret listening to Terry O'Reilly's latest radio program, The Age of Persuasion, that aired last weekend. The first five minutes are a rare Yukon historical tale, involving Sergeant Preston and free actual land deeds given to children inside Quaker Oats breakfast cereal. Amazing!
Stream it here on CBC.

The nostalgic episode is about Premiums, such as crackerjack toys, box-tops, and mail in refunds. How can these antique concepts be reinvented for today? Let's try a similar concept on for size:
Answer this questions correctly and you'll be entered to win tickets to Quasar’s Bach to Zappa concert on Saturday, March 2nd. The four saxophonists, presented by Whitehorse Concerts, have been awarded four OPUS prizes, including one for “Performer of the Year.”
How large an area was the Yukon land deed found in each Quaker Oats cereal box in 1955?

Stomach steinway
Thanks to everyone who invented a new name for the accordion! Andrea McColeman won two tickets for Alexander Sevastian last Saturday by giving the accordion a new name: the Stomach Steinway.

The show itself was not hard to stomach, it was awesome! That man's hands were faster than hummingbirds' wings and with his cheeky smiles–he knew it. A great performer!
Some of our favourite new names for the accordion that were submitted are
• drückenwaffe (loosely translated, in english :"push weapon")
• Ostanek's Melodious Effluvium
• a musical smile through all its white and black teeth
Keep in touch for the next musical contest!

Thanks to everyone who entered our "What Was Your First Concert?" contest. We received quite a few entries and a lot of great stories.
However, only one could be chosen (randomly): Collyn Lovelace!
This one's for you, Collyn.
Happy Friday everybody.

what was your first concert? contest

It's that time of the year again! Whitehorse Concerts kicks off the season this Saturday night.
Tell us what your first concert was and you're entered to win two tickets to the show. It doesn't have to be classical—my first concert was Poison, with Skid Row as the opening band.
It's that simple. You, too, can potentially embarrass yourself AND win tickets. (Although, I think I set the bar pretty low, so chances are you've got nothing to be ashamed of.)
Fill out the form below to enter. But if you feel like sharing, tell us about your first concert experience in the comments.

Contest closes Friday, September 28 at noon. Good luck!

Win Tickets to the Last Concert of the Season
On April 14, pianist Ian Parker closes Whitehorse Concerts' presenting season with The Beethoven Experience. So, of course, we want to give a lucky music-lover the chance to see the show for free.
Tell us which famed music school Mr. Parker received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, and you'll be entered in the draw for two tickets to the show on Saturday evening.
What a sweet way to celebrate a dynamic concert season (and spring!)
Contest closes on Friday, April 13 at noon. Good luck!

this is not a french horn

Congratulations Micheal Pealow! Micheal won two tickets for tomorrow night's Whitehorse Concerts presentation of Guy & Nadina—lucky man.
And knowledgable, too. It was a bit of a tricky question because the instrument does very closely resemble a french horn, but is, in fact, called a corno da caccia or cornet de cassio.
Thanks for entering everyone. Keep your eyes peeled for our next contest.
For your viewing pleasure, Shit Musicians Say — yet another spoof of the original Shit Girls Say series.
Stay warm and have a great weekend.

Carrie McClelland does!

Thank you to all who entered. Almost everyone knew that Caroline received her Bachelor of Music from UBC and those smarty-pants were entered in the draw.
Don't be sad if you're not Carrie McClelland—there will be more opportunities to win Whitehorse Concert tickets (and other neat things) from Aasman in the future.
Enjoy the show Carrie! (And all you future winners, have a great weekend, too.)
